Abstract

This study, which also addresses the changing perception of religion in the Netherlands and the transformation of religious music in churches, emerged in order to understand the effects of increasing secularization in recent years, particularly in Western Europe, on religious music. The fact that people are moving away from religion, that the perception of religion does not mean anything to many people, and the position of churches in society are important factors in the preparation of this research. In this context, attention has been drawn to the importance of music. The interdisciplinary study is very important in terms of determining the relationship between music, religion, and social transformation. The study, which was conducted in the Netherlands over the last 20 years using qualitative data, is based on a theoretical framework (secularism, post-secularism, culturalized religion, heritagization, sacro-soundscape) and data obtained from the field. In this respect, the study focuses on current issues by conveying the relationship between secularization and religious music to readers.
